Do you ever feel like you’re on a treadmill, constantly running and working your butt off but never actually going anywhere?
The last few weeks I have pretty overwhelmed. I feel like I say that a lot, but I realized going on vacation while self-employed and your office is mobile is not quite the same as a vacation when you work for someone else.
Did I relax and have fun? Of course.
But I couldn’t shake that nagging feeling that I had so much I had to get done and I was falling behind on everything. And every day I felt the need to do at least some work.
Plus I was in the midst of taking a blogging course and was trying to keep up with that. Homework when you are on vacation is never fun.
Upon returning, I had a million things running through my mind about what I needed to be doing. And then I got a bit of the post-vacation blues coupled with dreary weather blues and it took me a couple more days to get back on track to where I wanted to be.
And that doesn’t even include my jewelry-making. I had not touched my chainmaille tools in weeks.
I have been so caught up in everything for my business, that I have forgotten about actually making jewelry.
I’ve felt like I have been running and running, but not moving forward. My business to-do list which only seems to be ever growing. I keep striving to move forward, but that point at which I fee like I’m there is just out of grasp.
Finally I said to hell with it. I don’t care about everything I “need” to do, I’m going to make some jewelry.
And it was just what I needed.
I spent a considerable amount of time this past weekend making jewelry, and let me tell you, it was glorious!
Designs that have been forming in the back of my mind, some for nearly a year, are coming to life. I completed several projects this weekend, and though it was work, it was the fun part of my work, and the highlight of my weekend.
This is why I have a jewelry business.
To create. To let the ideas flow from my head to my fingertips. To work with my hands. To see an idea come to be.
