Prasad Designs: An Interview with Anusha Prasad

After a long hiatus from this feature, I am so excited to present my first artist interview of 2013! (Look at that, six days into January and I’m already on my way to completing one of my goals for the month.)

Like myself, Anusha is a Boston-area jewelry artist. But not only is she working hard on her jewelry business, which just opened on Etsy last June, Anusha is also in school studying business. I am impressed! Anusha’s jewelry includes designs with bold, brightly colored beadwork and wire-wrapped seaglass in soft, earthy tones.  I’m excited to welcome her to my blog today.

How did you get started making jewelry?

I am currently a college student majoring in Business because I have always wanted to start my own business. I have always been passionate about jewelry and have made jewelry every since I will a little girl. I decided to make a jewelry business by combining my hobby with my major! When I’m not busy doing homework or studying for exams, I am doing all I can to make this business happen. My family and friends have been fully supportive of me, pushing me as much as they can to make this business a success. There is not one moment I regret when making the decision to join Etsy and make PrasadDesigns come alive.

What do you like most about having your own jewelry business?

I really enjoy using my own creativity and imagination to create beautiful pieces. Each piece is handmade and is different from every other piece in my store.

What do you find most challenging?

The most challenging thing for me is balancing school and the business. I am always in classes or doing homework/studying, which does take up a lot of time. I also work on PrasadDesigns myself, which gives me great responsibility. I always have to manage my time wisely and make sure I can balance school and the business.

What inspires you to create?

Being able to be creative and make something with my own two hands allows me to feel a great sense of accomplishment. Every time I finish an item, I realize all my hard work went into creating something anyone in the country can purchase and wear. This thought alone inspires me to keep creating jewelry so I can share my passion with other people.

What do you think motivates others to buy handmade?

I think people really enjoy purchasing one of kind items. Items you see on Etsy aren’t items you can just purchase in any store on the street. Handmade items offer something unique and creative for each individual.

When you are not making jewelry, what do you like to do with your time?

I really enjoy traveling and visiting places I have never gone before. I also enjoy simply being with my close friends and family.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to others with their own craft business?

Patience is key. The business will take time to truly be a success. Also hard work and determination will really make a difference in the long run. And never give up!

Thanks for joining on my blog, Anusha! Be sure to check out more of her work on her Etsy shop.
