When you are a stay-at-home mompreneur with an active toddler, life pretty much doesn’t stop. No matter what you have going on in your life, whether it’s prepping for a big product launch, getting done chores and errands, or a entertaining a little person, you have to keep pushing myself forward. Sometimes there a blips in the road, both unexpected — like when your website doesn’t work for some mysterious reason (which unfortunately did happen last Wednesday) — and expected — like when that time of the month rolls around.
When I get my period, just like with anything else, life must continue. On those days, I like to do a little something extra for me, something that gives me an extra boost of confidence and is to take care of me. As moms, it’s important that find ways to take care of ourselves, especially when we get our periods!
I’m fortunate that I belong to a gym that offers childcare at a super affordable price. I try to get there at least once a week, and that is especially true when I have my period. While it can be hard to motivate myself to get there, having that time for myself and exercising makes me feel great. When I can’t get to the gym, I try to go for a walk with Eve, whether it’s to a local park so we can both get some fresh air or to get me a little fun pick-me-up. Using U by Kotex® products help me feel confident that I won’t have any issues and I can continue with my regular routine.
I’m all for indulging a little when my period comes. I live within a 30-minute walk of three different CVS shops where I can grab a little snack as well stock up on essentials like Kotex products when Eve and I are out. I find I particularly want chocolate or something that is both sweet and salty. I’m a huge fan of trail mix — especially if it has chocolate in it — or anything with peanut butter, another one of my weaknesses.
Read something for fun
I’m a huge book nut. At the end of a long day, especially during my period, I like to cozy up in bed in a pair of sweatpants and read a really good novel, or occasionally a magazine. I find it really helps me to unwind and relax and fall asleep more quickly so I’m even more prepared for the next day ahead!
Take a long, hot shower
I tend to be pretty fast in the shower, but when I get my period I like to savor the time and create a mini-spa experience. I stand under the water for a few minutes and exfoliate with a homemade body scrub. (Lucky for me, our friends who housesat while we were in Istanbul made me a jar of a coffee scrub!)
Spend time doing something creative
Whether it’s making jewelry, taking photos or just doing a fun craft, I like to do something fun and creative to keep me focused and feeling confident.
As an aside, it’s also important to be prepared for when it comes unexpectedly. True story: a few weeks ago I was at the mall with Eve, and we went to use the restroom so I could change her diaper. I saw a woman fighting with the tampon vending machine, so I asked her if she needed a tampon. I have my little handy clutch that I store all my essentials — pens, tissues, lotion, lip gloss, and of course, U by Kotex® Click®. These smooth and sleek little tampons easily go from compact to full-sized protection, and they come in really fun colors!
They’re super easy to find in the feminine products section of your local CVS.
