As someone passionate about making jewelry that is as eco-friendly as possible, I’m also committed to sharing brands that fit with this ethos and lifestyle.
I’m thrilled to welcome Sarah Hicks, the owner and founder of Noble Native, a clothing and accessories company in Kansas City, “committed to providing quality products, positive social messaging, and education regarding environmental responsibility.”
Tell us a little about your company
Noble Native sells a curated collection of women’s clothing, that meet at least one of our three sustainability criteria:
- It was made with sustainable materials,
- It was made in the USA, or
- It supports my local community of Kansas City
What makes your company sustainable/eco-friendly? What inspired you to create this type of business?
I liked to shop, but when I realized the human/environmental cost of the clothing industry, I wanted to make better choices. That said, the sustainable options I could find weren’t of an accessible nature (either price or style).
I wanted to create a shop that sold loungewear and basics, with a more accessible price tag, to help ease consumers into the mindset of paying more, but shopping better.
About a 1/3rd of my merchandise is sold on consignment for emergent designers. Each month, when I’m able to write a check to those designers, for the sales I made for them, it warms my heart. I wish everyone understood, that each item they purchase, has either a positive or a negative impact on an actual person, each purchase means something.
What tips or advice would you offer to someone who is trying to live a more eco-friendly/sustainable lifestyle?
When you start to feel weak, try and remember that a person with a family had to make that item. If there’s any question in your mind, as to how that person was cared for, don’t buy it.
Please share favorite eco-friendly brand (other than yours!)
