I believe in creating jewelry with meaning.
In addition to handcrafting jewelry that aligns with my values of sustainability, it’s important to me to use my business as a way to give back.
Over the years I have created several pieces of jewelry that support a cause. That includes the runner bracelet that raised money for One Fund Boston to the safety pin bracelets that raised over $1000 for the ACLU in fall 2016.
In the past, the jewelry with a purpose has been limited-run pieces. When I created the Toula line of minimalist eco-friendly jewelry, I decided to make several pieces permanently jewelry that gives back.
You’ll to feel a sense of pride every time you put these pieces on knowing that you helped support a charity that helps other women.
4 pieces of handmade jewelry for a cause
Teardrop minimalist post earrings
I am lucky to have access to clean, running water. However, this is not the case for millions of people around the world. During my travels to South America, I understood first-hand what this means. Because these earrings remind me of droplets of water, I will donate 5% for each pair of the teardrop minimalist teardrop earrings I sell to WaterAid. They are a nonprofit organization that helps to provide access to clean water and toilets to communities around the globe.
Vertical Bar Pendant Necklace
About a month before I became pregnant with my daughter, Eve, I interviewed for a position as a coordinator of a jewelry-making program at Rosie’s Place. It’s a women’s shelter in Boston that provides emergency services, art classes and workshops, and advocacy for women in need. I had volunteered at the shelter previously, playing games and serving hot meals to families. During the holiday season last year, Eve and I purchased winter accessories to donate to women there. It has become a local organization that has meaning for me.
I wanted to create a piece of jewelry for a cause that gives back locally. For these reasons, I will donate 5% of each sale of the vertical bar pendant necklace purchased to Rosie’s Place.
Oval bangle clasp bracelet
A friend who is expecting her first baby told me this bracelet reminded her of being pregnant. With both of my own pregnancies, I realized I am fortunate to have access to fantastic maternal health care. Sadly this is not the case for many women around the world or here in the United States. For this reason, I will donate 5% of each sale of the oval bangle clasp bracelet with teardrop accent to Every Mother Counts. It is an organization which helps mothers all over the world access maternal care.
Open circle stud earrings
I had to make sure that one piece of jewelry for a charity goes to helping the environment! For each sale of these handcrafted sterling silver open circle stud earrings, I will donate 5% to NRDC (National Resources Defense Council), which works to safeguard the earth.
