Winter in Boston is long and can often be brutal — especially the winter we had last year! Once February rolls around, I’m pretty much over it, but unfortunately we still have another month ahead of us. Getting snowed in is a reality I often have to face, and with a toddler to take care of, that can mean very long days facing lots of germs and not as much physical activity as we’re used to. The result? Less energy and more illnesses for everyone, and increased stress levels for me.
I find starting my days off on a positive note and focusing on me can be surprisingly motivating and really set the tone for the rest of the day. At the end of last year I started consistently getting into a regular morning routine based on The Miracle Morning. I start off by drinking a glass of cold water and do do a little bit of meditation and deep breathing, visualization of how I want my day to go, some yoga, followed by journaling. I can’t always get to the gym, so doing yoga at home ensures that I get my body moving, and it relaxes me. The routine as a whole is amazingly energizing!
I tend to be a tense person, and one of my biggest goals for the year is working on keeping my body and mind calm. In addition to regular exercise, I plan on doing this through working on my deep breathing when I’m feeling stressed and spraying my home with homemade lavender home freshener using Nature’s Truth paraben-free Lavender Oil. I love how lavender oil smells. The deep breathing combined with the lavender scent creates a calming tone around the house — which is something I also want to model for Eve.
I’m always working on not waking up super early. Since the end of last year I have had issues sleeping until 5:00, and I want to make sure I get enough sleep to ward off getting sick. I have also periodically started to take Nature’s Truth Melatonin to help with occasional sleeplessness.* Fortunately I don’t have any trouble swallowing pills, but if you do you won’t have any issues with this one because it comes in a quick dissolve tablet that solves the issue some people have with difficulty swallowing pills. I’m hoping that between getting sufficient sleep, exercising, staying calm, and drinking enough water (which is something I have also been working on this year) that I can ward off the germs and make it through winter.
