There is a Jewish value referred to as tikkun olam, or repairing the world. I don’t consider myself a particularly religious person, but Jewish values are deeply embedded in my identity, which spills into my business.
One way I practice this act of healing the world is by using my business as a way to make donations to organizations that I feel do great work in making our world a better place.
I feel fortunate as a small business owner that I have been able to raise money for organizations that I feel do really important work, from providing healing through yoga to those suffering from PTSD to helping the victims of the Boston marathon bombing.
Thanks to my wonderful customers, to date I have donated over $2000 from sales of jewelry for a cause, including:
- One Fund Boston
- Firefly Yoga International
- Friends of the Center for Families
- Southern Poverty Law Center
- National Resource Defense Council
It may seem like a drop in the bucket, but I firmly believe that every little bit helps. I’m proud to be able to use my business as a tool for raising money — and hopefully some awareness — for just a few ways we can work together to repair the world.
