Yesterday was a big day for me: it was my 30th birthday! This age, like so many milestone birthdays, can be approached with a variety of feelings. I have chosen to embrace this new decade with open arms.
As I started to get closer to my 30th birthday, I thought back on my 20s and all the things that happened during this decade. Some of the things that stick out in my mind: studying abroad in Spain, having my heart broken, graduating from college, moving to Boston, making new friends and reconnecting with old ones, falling out of touch with some people that I still miss very much, falling in love and meeting my (now) husband, many jobs (some better than others), getting into and going to graduate school (and somehow surviving it), getting married and celebrating the weddings of numerous friends, quitting my job to travel around South America for five months, and opening an Etsy shop.
The list could go on and on, but these are the things that particularly stick out in my head. As I spent this week reflecting on my past, I decided for my Friday Five to do something a little different and think about my future. For this week, I present five things I am looking to in this upcoming decade:
1. Growing my family
I have always loved children, and for the past several years I have worked in a family support program where I got really learn about all the ups and downs that come with having them (and I have heard a lot of stories). I know it is probably the toughest job I will ever have, but I am truly looking forward to having children this decade (fingers crossed!) and all the joy and craziness that brings.
2. Continuing to work on my Etsy shop
It had been a dream of mine for the last several years to open an Etsy shop. I am thoroughly excited (and a bit nervous) to focus more of my time and energy on it, learn a bunch of new business skills, and continue to work and grow my craft.

I was so fortunate to be able to travel to many places in the last 10 years. These experiences have taught me so much about myself and the world, and I look forward to to seeing new places and hopefully returning to Spain for the first time since studying abroad.
I love learning, whether it be through taking a class, reading a book, or talking to people of different backgrounds from my own. I learned so much in this past decade and I continue to learn a little more everyday. We will see what new things my 30s will teach me!
5. Embracing all the things, good and about, that come with the next decade
Though I am very happy with how things are in my life right now, I am also the type of person who looks forward to change, whether it be moving to a new apartment or starting a new job. I imagine my 30s will bring a lot of change in my life, and though I anticipate that some of it I will not like, I am excited to see what surprises the upcoming decade has in store for me.
