I am so ready for spring, I can’t even tell you. It’s been a pretty miserable week here in Boston with temperatures in the high 30s and rain. I could take the rain if it were warmer out, but this is just unusually cold. It’s crazy to think that the Boston Marathon is in less than two weeks. The first year I was living here I remember watching the marathon wearing a skirt, tank top and sandals and being really not. Not that I need it that warm, but at least to not have to wear my winter coat anymore would be fantastic. Pretty please, Mother Nature?
One of the things I am really looking forward to once the weather gets nicer is gardening. Sam and I talked it over with our downstairs neighbor and we’re going to plant vegetables in our backyard and finally start composting. Since we were renting before we didn’t want to start composting until we were settled somewhere. We already started our seeds inside (and Sam set up this crazy contraption of lights so that the seedlings get ample light) and they are starting to grow. Now that Eve is a toddler I am really looking forward to involving her in the process, although right now that means she makes a giant mess with the dirt while Sam and I prepare seeds.
With spring fever and planting on my mind, I decided for this month’s Friday Finds to feature some awesome gardening-related finds on Etsy. (And there are some really great ones!)
Keep all your gardening tools organized in this adorable and very handy gardening apron. (By the way, how cute would it be to have a child-sized version of this as well?)
I live in an area with a lot of old houses which means lead in the ground. Therefore we’ll be doing our gardening in raised bed gardens, and this one made from reclaimed wood (specifically, from an old fence) would add a really unique touch to our garden. (By the way, Del Hutson Designs has some really awesome other “rustic chic” decor pieces for your home, be sure to check them out!)
Treat your hands to some TLC after working hard in the garden with this lovely set of handcrafted soap with natural ingredients, including coconut and essential oils and a brush to really scrub the dirt out of your nails and some nail butter to sooth your fingers. It comes wrapped up, making it also the perfect gift!
Plant a little indoor herb garden to hang up with this adorable set. It features four glass planters with the herbs etched on the side. I totally want one of these in my kitchen. And hey, they’re on sale through April 30 for Mother’s Day!
This gorgeous set of gardening tools are handforged using traditional blacksmithing techniques in Montana. Seriously, how cool is that?
Who said gardening gloves couldn’t look pretty? Keep your hands protected and dress them up while your work with these unbelievably cute gloves. They even have a little bling!
