I have a special treat for you today! My little sister, Dana, has graciously agreed to guest post on my blog today. She was briefly a journalism major in college (and then went on to double major in English and Art History), so it’s somewhat ironic that I’ve since become the writer in my family, but after some coaxing I’m psyched to have her here today to share with you her infinite wisdom when it comes to easy beauty tips for busy women and looking your best when you’re on the go.
Hi there! I’m Bev’s younger sister and I currently work in the beauty industry in Manhattan. I’ve always been a product junkie, and needless to say working for an online beauty shop has only fueled that fire.
A little while ago, Bev asked me to share some of my favorite items in a guest-post on her blog (and by a little while ago, it’s been 4 months…#yikes). As a woman who is constantly on the go and doing 1000 things at once (yes, I’m one of those New Yorkers), I am someone who swears by products that are multi-taskers. Since my sister is a mother, I am going to share with you, loyal readers of Linkouture, products that a busy mother (or person) will love and appreciate.
Please note: The How to use tips and opinions are 100% my own, but feel free to check out the brands’ and distributors’ websites for more information! Also, this post contains affiliate links.
5 beauty products for busy women on the go
I have thick, dry, wavy hair. I wash it, at best, 3 times a week, and not just because it takes forever to style my hair from wet to dry. The 2nd or 3rd day hair is when my mane looks its best, and I swear by dry shampoo. I’ve tried them all, and while this one is a little pricier than the drug store brands, nothing is better than Klorane.
How to use: Shake, hold can about 6 – 8 inches from hair, spray near root. You’ll see white residue – but don’t be alarmed! Let it sit in your hair for a couple of minutes to absorb the oils and then comb it out with your fingers, comb, or brush.
Hydrating mists are new in my life, and they are game changers. They are great for setting your makeup, refreshing your face after the gym, or providing you with that much needed boost after sitting in a stuffy office all day. [Editor’s note: Or, if you’re like me, after hanging out with a bunch of toddlers at a playgroup in the morning!] This delicious smelling spray has an added bonus – it contains Hyaloruonic Acid which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. #genius
How to use: Shake, hold bottle a few inches from face, and spray. Voila! Refreshed.
I’m a skincare fanatic, so when I’m in the comfort of my own home I have an very intense, 4 step regimen for getting my face ready in the AM and an equally intense but different one for for clearing off the day in the PM. [Editor’s note: she gets this from my mom. I, on the other hand, am super lazy when it comes to washing my face.] When I’m traveling though, I’m all about facial cleansing towelettes. All you need is this product and a moisturizer and you are good to go. I’ve tried several over the years, but Burt’s Bees is my favorite. This company is more green than most and their towelettes smell divine. I particularly love the Cumber & Sage scent. This product removes makeup, cleanses your face, and tones your skinc as well. I also like using them to refresh dry (or dirty) hands and clean my feet if I’m walking around in flip flops in the city or at the beach.
How to use: Take a wipe out, cleanse your face, close package. Repeat when needed.
Like I said, I’m a skincare fanatic. Tata Harper is not a new brand, but I’ve only started recently using her products. The products are 100% cruelty and fragrance free, which is pretty awesome. This tint is great as it brings color and plumpness to your lips and hue to your checks, and it also contains anti-aging properties (fun fact: I’m 27 and I’ve been using anti-aging products since I was 20. It must be working because people are constantly asking me where I’ll be going to college in the fall…). I personally love this product in Very Sweet, a peachy pink color.
How to use: Use your finger and apply as you would on your lips with any lip gloss or balm. For your checks, take two fingers and apply in circular motions to blend.
So I don’t have the world’s nicest nails and I don’t have the $$ to get weekly manicures. In my vain attempt to maintain my manicures or hide my horrifying cuticles, I started using cuticle oil (per my mother’s suggestions – thanks, Ma!) everyday. I’ve had the same bottle for about a year and a half and I’m maybe 1/4 of the way through – it lasts forever. I also apply it after I paint my own nails – it helps speed up the drying process.
How to use: 1 drop or swipe per cuticle. If applying to wet nails, add oil 5 minutes after applying top coat.
