Friday Five: 5 Things You Might Now Know About Me, Part 2

Last month I wrote the very first edition of "Things You Might Not Know About Me."  (You might want to brush up on those facts to prep yourself for the Bev Quiz at the end of today's post.) Well, I think you have all waited long enough to find out some more completely random tidbits of information about my life, so here you have the second edition.

I may or may not have taken this photo for the sole purpose of this blog post...
1. I love pickled herring. Even my husband who grew up in Russia and keeps a tin of anchovies in the pantry finds my taste for pickled herring to be weird, to say the least. It is a bit of an acquired taste (much like stinky cheeses and raw oysters) but I could seriously eat this stuff every day.

Don't judge me by my taste for pickled fish
2. I'm really particular about what types of vessels I drink my beverages out of. For example, mugs are for hot beverages. Don't try to give me a mug of cold water. It's just not right.

I'm sexy and I know it!
3. I was a band geek in high school (I played the clarinet for 9 years). I mean, who doesn't love either freezing their ass off or sweltering in 80-degree weather in a while uniform while marching around and wearing a hat with a giant feather sticking out of it? Ok, so it wasn't actually that bad, and my fellow clarinetists and I enjoyed making fun of the cheerleaders (because obviously we were so much cooler than them). Plus it meant getting to perform at Disneyworld my senior year!

4. I was named after my maternal grandmother, who sadly passed away long before I made an appearance in this world. It is a Jewish tradition to name children after a deceased family member, hence why I have a name that you typically don't associate with people under the age of 80, a name which I have come to love and embrace.

5. While we are on the subject of names, my Hebrew name is Baila (pronounced Bay-la). Before I came up with the name "Linkouture" I briefly considered using my Hebrew name to name my jewelry line, but it just didn't seem to fit.

What's something people might not know about you?

  2. Really? Pickled herring, huh? Just the picture kind of made me gag...I am impressed, though, because I don't feel like that is a common food for people to actually eat! ;)

    1. I know, it's weird, right? It's surprisingly good (in my opinion) and not super fishy-tasting.

  3. We like sardines. So does our neighbor friend who always brings them when we get together. None of the others like them and think the three of us are nuts.

I was not a band geek. I should have been in chorus because I love singing, but never was in high school. I was too busy being an ultra cool cheerleader. ;)

    1. It's funny, sardines gross me out for some reason, but I don't know what it is about the herring.

And it's never too late to join a chorus!

  5. Pickled herring? It's hard to get past that one, though I totally agree about not drinking cold drinks from a mug. I drove the Oscar Mayer wienermobile after I graduated college. That was pretty cool.

  7. I think the name Baila is beautiful! I would have pronounced it incorrectly at first, so I also think Linkouture is a better fit. About me: I can eat peanut butter straight from the jar with a spoon. If available, I'll garnish it with raisins or graham crackers. As you can imagine, I try to keep it out of the house and my desperate reach. ;)
